1. Billy Unger
Billy Unger, the Disney star had to sue his father to protect himself as a teen. When he was just a kid, his dad offered to be a financial advisor and he, being his son thought – why not? However, after Billy grew up a bit he realized that was a bad idea. His dad was stealing his money and spending it recklessly. His father even insured Billy’s life for $3 million and made himself the sole beneficiary.
2. Leighton Meester
Leighton was raised by her grandmother as her mother was serving sentence for smuggling drugs. Meester started modelling when she was 10 and started building quite a successful career in her teens. Her mother acted as a manager as soon as she came out of prison. When she became successful, she started sending monthly checks for her mom to take care of her sick brother.
However, she found out that her mom has spent the money on plastic surgery instead. She sued her mother but she responded with a counterclaim for $3 million. Not only that but she said she will draw the lawsuit if her daughter increases her monthly check from $7,500 to $10,000.
3. Amanda Bynes
The story here is a bit different. It’s not all the parents’ fault. Amanda started her rant on her parents and wanted to emancipate them, accusing her father of abuse. However, she later had a meltdown and was placed under psychiatric care. Since then, she got better and her relationship with her family improved.
4. Why did Jenna Malone RENOUNCED her Parents?
Jenna discovered that her parents have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on loans to family and bad investments. That made her so furious she went to court and emancipated at the age of 15. She moved out and got herself an apartment in Hollywood. She had a rough time on her own but she managed to build an impressive career.

Her parents pushed her into modelling and acting since she was a little kid. Taylor missed school and didn’t have any friends. She emancipated at the age of 16 but later has forgiven her parents for everything.
6. Macaulay Culkin
The child star from Home Alone had a pretty rough time in his childhood. His father was very abusive and controlling. Luckily, his parents decided to split but that again, caused a huge fight for Macaulay – as legal guardian will control his finances as well.
The argument was so heated that even the attorney threatened that he will emancipate him completely. In the end, his mother got custody and Macaulay didn’t see his father since. He doesn’t even consider being related to him.

She might have had the toughest time with her mom from all kids on the list. Since starring in E.T., drew became a popular child actor. However, that wasn’t the biggest problem. The biggest problem was her mom, who started taking her to nightclubs when she was just 8 years old. She even developed a drinking problem at the age of 11!
At the age of 14, Drew had to go to rehab! She emancipated from her mother as she got out of rehab but she had no idea how to be an adult. Drew spoke about how she didn’t know that food needs to be thrown out of the fridge or else it would mould.
